Joe Biden Will Not Send US F-16 Fighter Jets to Ukraine

Jakarta

President of the United States (US) Joe Biden said the US would not send fighter jets F-16 to Ukraine to help Ukraine against Russia. However, Biden said he would visit their important ally, Poland.

As reported AFPOn Tuesday (31/1/2023), Biden said no when asked by reporters at the White House whether he supported the delivery of the jet, which Ukrainian leaders say fighter jets are high on their latest weapons wish list.

“No,” said Biden.

Western nations this month finally agreed to send modern NATO-standard tanks to Ukraine, one of the most powerful weapons in their conventional armies.

The increased support fueled hopes in Kyiv that it would soon start procuring F-16 fighters to bolster its own depleted air force, but the issue is still a matter of debate in the West.

Ahead of the first year of Russia’s invasion on February 24, there are growing hopes that Biden could travel to Europe as a show of support for an alliance backing Ukraine.

Poland is at the heart of relief efforts as a logistics hub, arms supplier and key US ally in Eastern Europe.

“I’m going to Poland. I don’t know when,” he told reporters when asked about the visit.
