Joe Biden – Found even more classified documents

NEW YORK (Dagbladet): Representatives of the US Department of Justice have found even more classified documents at the home of US President Joe Biden, reports Washington Post.

It is supposed to be about six “objects”, but it is unclear whether all six are documents. They were found after Biden gave Justice Department officials permission to search his home from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday.

From before, documents have been found in two rounds in Biden’s garage and in an office he managed in Washington DC after he resigned as vice president and before he became president.

Many decades

The information about additional documents comes after representatives of the Department of Justice have carried out a thorough review of Biden’s home in Wilmington. Some of the documents are said to be from Biden’s time as a senator, says the president’s personal lawyer, Bob Sauer.

Did like Trump

Biden was a senator for Delaware until he became Barack Obama’s vice president in 2009.

Biden had given the representatives of the Department of Justice full access to his home – including personal, handwritten notes, documents and binders from his fifty years as a politician. After the review, which took place on Friday, the Ministry of Justice seized six “items” consisting of classified documents and associated materials, according to Sauer.

Earlier, Biden’s lawyers explained that they found other classified documents in Biden’s garage, which they also handed over to the Department of Justice.

Already in November, some of Biden’s employees also came across classified documents in an office he managed in Washington DC after he stepped down as vice president.

– Since the beginning, the president has been keen to handle this responsibly because he takes it seriously. Neither the president nor the first lady was present when the home was searched, says Sauber in a statement on Saturday evening.

Comparing

The Republicans are trying to draw parallels between Biden’s document case and that of former President Donald Trump’s handling of such documents.

The former president is under investigation for the handling of classified documents after he leaves the White House in 2021. The FBI found classified documents during a raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida in August.

Attorney General Merrick Garland has appointed special investigators to investigate both the current and former president. Although there are similarities between the cases, there are also major differences.

The FBI seized hundreds of documents from Trump. It is far more than what has so far appeared with Biden.

Trump also refused to hand over documents even though he was subpoenaed, and it went so far that the FBI chose to search his home, Mar-a-Lago, to make seizures. Biden says he turned over the documents immediately when he became aware of them.
