Joe Biden continues to test positive for covid and feels “good”

Washington (AFP) – US President Joe Biden was still testing positive for COVID-19 but was still “feeling fine” on Sunday morning, his personal doctor said in a letter released by the White House.

The 79-year-old president’s antigen test “remained positive this morning, as expected,” Dr. Kevin O’Connor wrote, calling it a “rebound” of positivity that can occur in people treated with Paxlovid, the pill anticovid-19 from Pfizer.

“The president continues to feel well” and continues to comply with “strict confinement measures,” it added.

Biden, the oldest US president, tested positive on July 21 with “very mild symptoms” and was released from confinement on Wednesday after testing negative.

But he tested positive again on Saturday, for which he returned to isolation at the White House. To date, it has not been considered pertinent to resume treatment.

The president, fully vaccinated and given two booster doses, “continues to conduct the affairs of Americans from the presidential residence,” O’Connor said.

Paxlovid is an antiviral treatment that works by reducing the ability of the virus to replicate, which slows down the progression of the disease.

To be effective, it must be administered in the days immediately following the onset of symptoms.

It is recommended in the United States for people at risk of developing a severe case of the disease, a category in which the US president falls due to his age.
