The American media announced that Joe Biden was the unofficial winner of the US election. The Democrat’s victory was sealed when it turned out that he won a clear majority of votes in Pennsylvania, which allowed him to be assigned 20 additional electoral votes. Thus, he gathered the required number of 270. Many national and foreign politicians expressed their congratulations. Among them was Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – the true star of the most left-wing Democrats.
After a short congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spent the next hours tweeting about the Democratic Party’s poor results in the elections, including to the House of Representatives.
“Let me just say one thing: over the past two years, I and the progressive candidates have been swapping powerful Democratic officials backed by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee,” she wrote on Twitter. “Not once did anyone from the party ask me what weaknesses I found in their operation. If they stop blaming progressive candidates, we can help” – she added.
Democrats had greater ambitions in the Congressional elections, but instead lost a few seats in the House of Representatives and are still fighting for control of the Senate, where they will surely not win a majority. They only have a chance of a 50-50 draw.
This poor result has led to calls to replace current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with someone who can unite both the party’s progressive and moderate wings.
Ocasio-Cortez asked why the party was listening to the people who lost the elections, pointing out that the party was consulting with former Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill, who lost her re-election fight two years ago.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez became a leading figure in the Democratic Party’s progressive wing after she made a surprise in the 2018 Congressional elections. By winning the mandate, the then 29-year-old became the youngest member of the House of Representatives. Thanks to her ruthless approach and strongly leftist views, the New York resident has many enemies, and at the same time enjoys great support throughout the country. In the United States, there are even voices that she could be the next Democratic presidential candidate.
Ocasio-Cortez noted that all Democrats who ran for a seat in the House of Representatives who supported free access to healthcare for all have either won or are on their way to victory.
It was a response to former Ohio Republican Governor John Kasich, who believes the far left (including the popular AOC) almost cost Biden to win the election. There are many similar voices among some Democrats.
The AOC noted that it was the migrants who won the Democrats in Arizona, the black people turned the rivalry in Georgia, and the progressive politics made the party recapture Michigan.
She added: “Blaming activists and the left corrupts a key electorate and distracts from asking real questions and fixing big problems.”
