Joe Biden appoints Maria Rosario Jackson as head of National Arts Fund


The US president has announced that he is proposing the appointment of Maria Rosario Jackson as head of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). This Californian doctor, teacher and administrator will become, after validation by Congress, the 1time African-American woman, of Mexican origin, appointed president of the agency that allocates federal endowments ($ 162 million in 2020) in the artistic sector.

A teacher in several large institutions, she has also joined many arts organizations as an administrator or advisor and was appointed in 2013 by President Barack Obama to the National Arts Council which oversees and advises the National Endowment for the Arts.

Joe Biden proposed 25% increase in NEA budget in 2022

Established by Congress in 1965, the National Endowment for the Arts is an independent federal agency tasked with assisting artists and cultural institutions in the United States. The various NEA programs make it possible to distribute, in particular, grants, grants to artists and aid to local cultural agencies.
