Joe Biden Announces Opening of Rafah Crossing for Aid Deliveries

President of the United States (US) Joe Biden said the Rafah crossing would be opened for aid deliveries. Biden said he expected the Rafah border to be between Gaza and Egypt will reopen in the next 24 to 48 hours.

“The highway needs to be repaved, and the condition is very bad,” Biden was reported as saying AlgeriaSaturday (21/10/2023).

“I believe that in the next 24 to 48 hours, the first 20 aid trucks will cross the border,” he added.

Meanwhile, according to the White House, Biden has spoken again with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, discussing ‘plans to begin moving humanitarian aid to Gaza from Egypt.

“The President reaffirmed the United States’ support for Israel’s right to self-defense and its obligation to protect its citizens, while underscoring the importance of actions consistent with the laws of war to include the protection of civilians in Gaza caught up in the conflict waged by Hamas,” the White House said.

Biden, who visited Israel earlier this week, has been in regular contact with Netanyahu.
