The current president of the United States, Joe Biden, has officially announced his candidacy for the position of president of the United States.
“Every generation has a moment when it has to stand up for democracy. It has to stand up for its basic freedoms. I think this is us [brīdis]that’s why I’m running for re-election as President of the United States,” writes Biden, who is now 80 years old, on Twitter.

It was previously reported that Biden’s advisers plan to start his re-election campaign soon, three sources familiar with the plans told NBC News, the US partner network of Sky News.
Advisers to the 80-year-old president have said for months that no official timetable has been agreed upon for when he could begin his campaign.
However, they had long since set April 25 as an unofficial target. “Mr. Biden will launch his candidacy for next year’s election with a campaign video message – just like he did four years ago,” the sources said.
As the current president, Biden is unlikely to launch the kind of campaign he did in 2019 after his announcement.
Instead, he is believed to follow the precedent of other sitting presidents and stay on White House grounds for most of this year rather than travel the country.
Biden confirmed he would seek re-election when he told NBC earlier this month: “I plan to run … but we’re not ready to announce that yet.”
