he Department of Studies and Planning (DGEP) published in April the monitoring report on economic indicators. And in this 37-page report, the statistics on business creation and jobs raise some questions. Numbers first: 2,000 companies were created in March 2023.
Reported in February 2023, this is an increase of more than 15%. In itself, this is good news which indicates that despite the multidimensional crisis that the country is going through, there are niches for business and that there are still in this country, entrepreneurs capable of taking risks, because they believe in the future of this country.
However, this upturn in business creation is not proportional to the level of new job creation. For the month of March, faced with 2,000 new companies, only 780 jobs were created, ie less than one job (0.3) per company.
On the side of the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment, the figures are not brilliant either. Of more than 4,000 job seekers, the Agency filled only 49 positions in the first quarter.
Can we deduce from this that our companies are not job creators? o
