Jobs generated by exports in 2023 fell -4.9%

Jobs created in 2023 by the traditional sector (1 million 530 thousand 123) had a contraction of -11% and by the non-traditional sector (2 million 515 thousand 985) -0.7%.

In 2023 (January-December) the number of jobs linked to exports, including direct, indirect and induced, reached 4 million 046 thousand, presenting a decrease of -4.9% compared to 2022 (4 million 253 thousand), reported the Global Economy and Business Research Center of the CIEN-ADEX Exporters Association.

The report ‘Impact of exports: Employment and GDP’, indicates that there were 9 sectors that presented falls in the generation of jobs: traditional agriculture (-31.4%), traditional fishing (-54.2%), hydrocarbons (-35.3%). %), clothing (-21.7%), iron and steel (-13.9%), textiles (-8%), chemicals (-18.7%), wood (-23.7%) and miscellaneous (-5.2%).

In the case of traditional offices, only mining (6.6%) closed in blue, while, in non-traditional ones, agribusiness (4.4%), fishing and aquaculture (5.9%), non-metallic mining (4.5%) and metalworking (4.8%) had a positive performance, in addition to reaching its historical maximum that year.

By stockagribusiness (1 million 710 thousand 472) was presented as the most dynamic sector in creating jobs, followed by mining (1 million 042 thousand 337), traditional agriculture (436 thousand 768), clothing (267 thousand) and fishing and aquaculture (201 thousand 423).

Others were non-metallic mining (83,752), iron and steel (59,444), textiles (51,585), traditional fishing (42,067), miscellaneous (41,308), metalworking (39,760), chemicals ( 39 thousand 651), wood (21 thousand 590) and hydrocarbons (8 thousand 952).

Regions

In the report, the CIEN-ADEX indicated that jobs linked to the export sector were reduced in the Amazon (-21.3%), Lima and Callao (-16.7%), and the Andean zone (-2.9%). Only the Coast (+2.4%) presented a positive performance.

Likewise, of all the regions, only 10 registered increases in job creation: Pasco (+85%), Apurímac (+62.5%), Moquegua (45.6%), Huancavelica (17.3%), Ica (12.6%), Cusco (7.6%), Puno (6.3%), Ayacucho (4.4%), Arequipa (2.5%) and La Libertad (2.1%).

Lima, Ica and La Libertad accumulated 48% of the total jobs created by exports. In the capital, agribusiness and clothing stood out; and in Ica and La Libertad, agroindustry and traditional mining.

Destinations

Despite having a drop of -4.5%, the US was the main country generating jobs linked to the sector, adding close to 1 million 101 thousand. It was followed by the European Union (778,306), China (728,780), Canada (146,459), Chile (136,673) and Ecuador (124,454).

By continent, North America (1 million 340 thousand), Asia (1 million 149 thousand), Europe (934 thousand 668) and Latin America (581 thousand 807) stood out.
