Job Vacancies Drop Sharply in Industry, Public Services See Increase: VDAB Statistics

More jobs also became available in public services in the past twelve months than in the previous period. In industry it drops sharply. For example, there were about a third fewer vacancies last year in transport, logistics and post (-31.8 percent) and in the manufacture of transport equipment (-36.7 percent). In the textile and clothing sector, that number even halved (-54.9 percent).

VDAB registered almost 30,000 vacancies last month. A total of 326,397 vacancies were received directly in the past twelve months, about 14 percent less than a year earlier. Although there are still many, the service has seen that number drop for more than a year after a peak in 2022 and 2023.

For these vacancy figures in the normal economic circuit without temporary employment assignments, VDAB does not take recruitment and temporary employment agencies into account. These vacancies are reported directly to VDAB. Through the recruitment and selection offices, there was an increase of 20.6 percent of these vacancies in the last twelve months (without temporary assignments).
