The New Jersey Reentry Commission (NJRC) announced new programs designed for newly arrived immigrants, residents struggling with addiction and people who have recently left the jail system, as well as other vulnerable residents of the City of Hackensack.
The NJRC offers mental health treatment, job training, and assistance with legal proceedings.
“The Reentry Corporation is a nonprofit organization focused on eliminating challenges for people who need assistance with employment, legal and social service,” the Rev. Bolívar Flores, NJRC Chief of Staff, said in a statement.
The organization assists with services such as resume writing, meeting with employment specialists, assistance applying for ID cards, and assigning a case manager.
NJRC also provides job training and certifications for in-demand fields, such as welding and electrical-related trades. Job training is conducted at the Governor’s Reentry Training and Employment Center located in Kearny Point.
“Our clients come from a variety of referral sources. We have individuals who come straight from prison. The way it works is that clients will report to each site in the county on Monday and complete the week of enrollment. And during that week, they will complete an intake packet and an individual service plan,” said Robert Carter, NJRC operations manager.
“They will sit down with a social worker and legal case manager or legal point of contact who helps people navigate their case management and work through whatever legal issues they have, whether it be outstanding citations, warrants, citations, license suspensions or anything else they need.”
NJRC also hosts a conference titled Fentanyl Addiction: Strategies and Treatment. With opioid overdose deaths rising to more than 10,000, the NJRC is bringing together top medical officials and treatment centers to discuss how to best combat the problem, the organization said.
The NJRC is located at 39 Hudson Street in Suite 404, in Hackensack,
