For over 50 years, medico international has been supporting people in need and working to uncover and eliminate the structural causes of misery and exclusion. A core area is global solidarity cooperation with civil society partners in the global south in the fight for human rights and good living conditions. We are looking for a personality (d/m/f) who sees help as part of comprehensive emancipatory and political action and who is aware of the structurally asymmetrical donor-recipient relationship in international cooperation as well as the ambivalent consequences, which may involve external support.
medico has been closely linked to civil society and social movements in southern Africa for decades. In this context, we cooperate with partners who, aware of the post-colonial and post-apartheid continuities and the intersectional forms of violence and exploitation, are committed to human rights, reparations in the context of colonial crimes, social justice and emancipatory relationships of care.
The tasks include, among others:
Conceptual development and technical support of regional and thematic priorities, with a special focus on pan-African developments and discourses. This is done across departments in close coordination with other colleagues working on Africa. Responsible for thematic and strategic development of partnerships, networks and collaborations in the area of donations and third-party funding. Advising partner organizations on the conception of projects, their implementation as well as on monitoring and evaluation. Regular trips to the Project regions Participation in the public relations work of medico international Participation in cross-departmental internal strategy development
Important prerequisites for successful work in this position and at medico are:
High identification with the political goals of medico, empathy and willingness to take responsibility for the respective context of our cooperations. In-depth knowledge of the political and social developments in the region and beyond, pan-African perspectives and networks and the ability to translate these into cooperations. In-depth knowledge and ability to analyze on the context and framework conditions of the international aid system Ability to act in complex and unpredictable contexts Ability to communicate and criticize, understanding of constructive and non-violent communication structures and techniques Enjoyment of independent work in a collegial team, in a dynamic environment, with a wide variety of actors and with a Wide range of challenges, relevant professional and international experience, especially in transnational cooperation work as well as in the development and support of project plans. Fluent language skills in German and English, other language skills (especially French) are an advantage.
