Rosa Garcia, who has been unemployed for four years, attended a job fair at Yankee Stadium, the first to be held in person since the pandemic by the city’s Small Business Services department.
“I feel happy to come here, right, they are taking into account the different opportunities that we can have in other types of work that one wishes to do,” said García.
Rosa worked in a warehouse but in 2019 she had to quit because she was expecting her second child. Now, she is looking for a job with flexible hours.
“A more comfortable time for me and for the children, because since they are little, then you also have to have time for them.”
The agency commissioner thanked the Yankees administration for opening the doors to about twenty businesses and non-profit organizations for a fair that coincides with the month dedicated to small businesses.
“For New Yorkers to reach out and hear from professionals who connect them to good paying jobs,” Commissioner Kevin D. Kim said.
With the help of recruiters, applicants met with professional resume advisers, participated in interview workshops and received free financial advice.
“We connect job seekers with interview prep, training, and recruit them for these top 10 open jobs at our #SmallBusinessMonth business recruitment and resource fair at @Yankees Stadium! 🏟️💼🎉
“Say goodbye to difficult job searches, visit for more information,” read a message on social media from the NYC Department of Small Business Services account.

“We know that we are still in a crisis of jobless people and we really want them to receive all the support that we can give them when they are looking for a job and what other things we can offer them,” said Vilda Vera Mayuga, commissioner, Department of Consumer Protection and to the worker.
In addition to filling out job applications and obtaining information on training to start a career, applicants were also able to choose clothing donated by the non-profit organization ‘Queens Defenders’ that they can wear to their job interviews.
The next job fair organized by the city will be on Thursday, May 25 in Queens and will offer different services.
