The annual Oscars will be awarded again in February and there is a good chance that Joaquin Phoenix goes home with the Oscar for Best male lead. He won the Golden Globe last Sunday for his share in Joker and he is still nominated for a BAFTA and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
The actor is not known as the easiest actor to work with. According to the website Next Best Picture it was a disaster to shoot the Joker film with Phoenix. This is what the website writes about its behavior on the director’s set Todd Phillips:
“One of the main concerns was the difficult collaboration with Phoenix. He initially wanted to do his own make-up and hair, and the make-up team of the film therefore had to compromise with him. Moreover, he apparently did not like it to be touched often, he lost 50 pounds for the film and was often “hungry.”
He walked away in the middle of hair dye sessions and disappeared from the set in between recordings, so the crew had a hard time finding him for updating his makeup. Maintaining continuity was such a difficult task that the person responsible for it actually left the film. The team would bribe Phoenix with crackers to keep him quiet, otherwise he would eat so little. “
