Joaquin Phoenix stars as Napoleon in Ridley Scott | film NOW

Joaquin Phoenix will be featured as French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in Kitbag, a film by director Ridley Scott. That reports Deadline.

The film will be about Napoleon’s private life, his rise as a military leader and emperor, and the love for his wife Josephine.

Napoleon (born 1769) came to power in the last phase of the French Revolution. He conquered large parts of Europe with the French army, after which he was defeated and exiled to the island of Elba. He returned but was again defeated at Waterloo. Napoleon was exiled a second time, this time to the island of Saint Helena, where he died in 1821 at the age of 51.

Phoenix (45) and 83-year-old Scott previously worked together on Gladiator (2000). For that movie Phoenix was nominated for an Oscar. Scott also won Gladiator an Oscar nomination, as for his films The Martian, Black Hawk Down in Thelma & Louise.

When Kitbag will appear has not yet been announced.
