Joan Mir on Hayden, MotoGP World Champion with 1 Victory

Valencia

Joan Mir incised a unique record after winning MotoGP 2020. With only one series win this season, Mir is past his late record Nicky Hayden.

Miri became world champion after the Valencia MotoGP race at the Riccardo Tormo circuit, Sunday (11/15/2020) evening WIB. The Suzuki rider didn’t win, he only finished seventh.

However, that finish was enough to bring Mir to the MotoGP championship ladder because his closest competitor Fabio Quartararo had crashed since the start of the race. Mir, with 171 points, will no longer be caught by Franco Morbidelli in second place in the standings with 29 points, considering that the 2020 season leaves one draw.

Now, Mir can smile broadly because his consistency throughout the season has paid off. Mir may only win once, but he is the racer who has the most podium finishes, seven times!

Mir hasn’t even taken pole this entire season, the first rider since Wayne Rainey in 1992, when he was named the GP500. Mir also became the first world champion with the fewest wins, namely once in the European MotoGP last week.

He beat the record for Leslie Graham (1949), Umberto Masetti (1950 and 1952), and Nicky Hayden (2006) who won two. Especially in MotoGP, Hayden previously held the record.

In the 2006 season, Hayden was able to beat Valentino Rossi, who that season won five victories. Hayden finished with 252 points, just five points clear at the end of the season from Rossi as runner-up.

Hayden only won MotoGP in the Netherlands and the United States, but 10 times on the podium. Meanwhile, although Rossi has been on the podium 11 times, he has retired three times.

There is still one race left in MotoGP 2020, namely Portimao, Portugal this weekend, can you Joan Mir increase the number of wins?
