JK Wants Jabodebek LRT Can Lose Competition from KRL

Jakarta

Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla highlighted the high cost of constructing the Jabodebek LRT. As is known, the value of the Jabodebek LRT project, which initially amounted to Rp. 29.9 trillion, has swollen to Rp. 32.5 trillion.

According to the man who is familiarly called JK, the construction of the LRT is not easy. He said the cost of the LRT was expensive because all the routes were made elevated.

“This is not easy, especially because the system is special, if those who have the above are in the city, outside the city, there is no need. This is very expensive to Cibubur above,” he said in Jakarta, Thursday (14/7/2022).

He said, with an expensive project, it will have an impact on ticket prices. JK said this made it difficult for LRT to compete with KRL.

“The fare is expensive, meaning he has a very expensive tariff, he can’t compete, say KRL. KRL tariffs from Bogor are only Rp. 3,500, this can be Rp. 20 thousand. How can you compete, so it will not be easy,” he said.

JK also mentioned the Jabodebek LRT, which has few passengers.

“The experience in Palembang is that there are 5 passengers. It must be reviewed again, but it has already been done,” said JK.
