Jakarta –
10th and 12th vice-president Jusuf Kalla (JK) spoke about the criteria for candidates for the position of vice president (cawapres) who are worthy of being accompanied Anies Baswedan in the 2024 presidential election. JK estimates that the vice presidential candidate should not be seen by his popularity, but by his experience of helping the president.
“The congressman was initially judged not on popularity, but on the experience he had helped the president with. Look at it all,” JK said at the Kempinski Hotel, Central Jakarta on Friday (10/28/2022).
He gave an example of the figure of the eleventh vice president, Boediono, to vice president Ma’ruf Amin. According to him, the two figures have been able to work well to help the president without even campaigning.
“(For example) I’ve been vice president twice, Pak Boediono, Pak Kiai (Ma’ruf) have you ever campaigned? Never. It had to be, it had to work well.
JK realizes that both eligibility and popularity will be the benchmarks against which the VP candidate will be chosen. However, she believes that the public will judge whether the figure can work well or vice versa.
“Sure, in the election, yes. But eligibility shows in what he’s doing now. It has to be … but people will judge whether he is able to work or not,” he said.
JK also spoke of two widely discussed political figures as Anies’ vice president candidate, namely Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) and Ahmad Heryawan (Aher). According to JK, both figures are qualified.
“It’s okay. It means the coalition said Anies,” he added.
Earlier, Anies Baswedan talked about the vice-presidential candidate who will accompany him in 2024. As you know, the two names that caused a lot of discussion were AHY and Aher. So how did Anies respond?
“It’s still long,” Anies said when he met in Kempinski, Central Jakarta on Friday (28/10).
Anies was reluctant to talk further about the 2024 vice-presidential candidate. According to him, there is still a long way to go to make a choice.
The former governor of DKI Jakarta admitted that he has not yet campaigned in the regions to prepare for the upcoming presidential elections. According to him, what is currently being done is to meet only a certain number of parties.
“I just met people,” he said.
Anies also said the Coalition of Change statement made up of NasDem, Democrats and PKS would be announced as soon as it was ready.
