JK Prediction About When the End of the Indonesian Covid-19 Pandemic

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla estimates that the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia is likely to completely recover in 2022.

This was conveyed by the man who is often called JK when he visited the management and volunteers of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Covid-19 in Bali, Saturday (31/10/2020).

JK explained that the new Covid-19 pandemic will recover in 2022, because vaccination is expected to be ready in mid-2021. Even if the prediction is correct, Indonesia also still has to vaccinate at least 70% of the population within a year.

Moreover, vaccine producing countries such as China, Britain and the United States will prioritize their respective domestic needs, before sending them to other countries, including Indonesia. This, of course, has an impact on the duration of the vaccination process in the country later.

“If asked when the Covid-19 pandemic will be over, I estimate that in Indonesia it will only be completed in 2022. Because the only ones who can finish this are vaccines, and clinical tests for the vaccine can only come out between January-February 2021 and start production. March, “said JK quoted by CNBC Indonesia, Sunday (1/11/2020) from a YouTube broadcast.

Furthermore, JK reminded that the target to vaccinate one million population per day is not an easy task. Given, the ability to check Covid-19 in Indonesia, which until now is still at a maximum of 30 people per day.

That’s because JK estimates that the ability to administer vaccines in the middle of next year can only cover 500 thousand people every day.

Regarding the plan for the vaccine program, as Chairman of PMI, Kalla stated that his agency has prepared 230 Blood Donation Units scattered in various parts of Indonesia as vaccine delivery posts. These posts are accompanied by thousands of personnel who will help the process of injecting the Covid-19 vaccine.

Previously, the government was trying to boost the procurement of vaccines, which are targeted to be injected in November. But the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, said this plan could be delayed from the initial schedule.

He said the reason for the postponed vaccination was not due to a lack of supply but because it took time for the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) to issue an emergency use authorization.

President Joko Widodo has also warned that the vaccination process should not be carried out hastily and carelessly. He also ordered his staff to first ensure the safety and effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccine.

“Be careful, lest we rush to vaccinate so that scientific principles, data, and health standards are seconded, we can’t. Do not arise the perception of the government being rushed, in a hurry, without following existing scientific principles, “Jokowi said in a closed meeting on Monday (26/10).

JK, who is also the Chairman of PMI, appealed to all PMI volunteers to be more intense in spraying disinfectants to break the chain of transmission. He also appealed to the public to be more disciplined in implementing health protocols.
