JK Calls 75% of Mosques in Indonesia Bad, Muhammadiyah Highlights Muazin

Jakarta

Chairman of the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) Jusuf Kalla revealed that the majority of mosque speakers in Indonesia produce a bad sound, can be heard but difficult to understand. PP Muhammadiyah then highlight the muezzin’s voice.

PP Muhammadiyah Secretary General Abdul Mu’ti said that it was not only the speaker’s condition that was problematic, but also the muezzin who sometimes sounded careless.

“Azan is a perfect reading. Its contents are very beautiful and full of wisdom. This requires a perfect, beautiful, and whole-souled sound. This is the reason why the Prophet appointed Bilal bin Rabah as the main muezzin. This teaches us that the call to prayer should be echoed by a special muezzin. Not everyone can call to prayer, and it should not be careless,” said Mu’ti, to reporters, Tuesday (19/10/2021).

Mu’ti then mentioned that there are still many mosques whose muezzins are not good. Even according to Mu’ti, the call to prayer is just a formality.

“Among Muslims, there are many mosques and prayer rooms whose muezzins are not good. The call to prayer is just a formality by anyone who has time,” he said.

In addition, Mu’ti highlighted the existence of readings that are not part of the call to prayer but are also echoed. He considered this to be a disturbing thing at times. He considered the need for deliberation between mosque administrators regarding the call to prayer.

“In addition, there is also a problem with the quality of the loud speaker, as stated by Mr. Jusuf Kalla. The large number of readings that are not part of the call to prayer that are read before or after the call to prayer can also make you uncomfortable,” he said.

“All parties should be considerate of each other. People who call the call to prayer should realize that reading too long and too loud can disturb the peace. There needs to be deliberation between the takmir of the mosque and the closest prayer room regarding the call to prayer so that it remains meaningful for the symbols of Islam,” continued Mu. ‘ti.

Furthermore, Mu’ti told the public to understand. According to him, it is important to have tolerance in the community.

“The public should also understand how important the meaning of the call to prayer is for Muslims. However we need privacy and tranquility, please still understand the importance of tolerance and tolerance. An exclusive and individualistic attitude is not the character of the Indonesian nation. If there is a problem, it should be discussed for the common good,” he said.
