CANCÚN, Q. ROO. – The wait for the Cardinals, defender JJ Watt ‘debuted’ in team practice. The former Texans player participated in his first sessions after recovering from a hamstring injury during the first days of camp last July. However, the defender took advantage of the time and showed his leadership on and off the field.

During the early preseason games, JJ helped his younger teammates both with advice and support. Recovered from his injury, Watt began his first practice as the defensive line leader during drills. At 32 years old and with a decade of experience in the NFL, he considered that he does not need preseason games to know how his body is.

“I’ve been to a lot of football games, I’ve been in a lot of situations, so I know what it takes for my body to be ready for the first game,” Watt said.

Arizona coach Kliff Kingsbury noted that they were patient not to rush Watt’s return. “We wanted to make sure we were cautious, make sure he felt 100 percent before we got him back out there,” he said.

The Cardinals will play one more preseason game against the Saints, before making their debut on September 12 against the Titans.
