Houston Texans star JJ Watt did not appreciate the boos of Kansas City Chiefs fans when the two teams held a moment of silence in support of the “Black Lives Matter” movement on Thursday night.
“I thought the moment we got together was great. The boos during this moment, it was unfortunate. I don’t quite understand this, he told the NFL Network. There was no flag involved. There was nothing but two teams coming together to show unity. ”
Prior to joining the Chiefs players and staff in the middle of the pitch, Texans representatives stayed in the locker room during the performance of the US national anthem.
They then joined the Chiefs players in the middle of the field, where they held a minute of silence. The words “End Racism” were visible in both paid zones.
Texans head coach Bill O’Brien said he hadn’t heard the boos. He also speculated that it may have been fans’ reaction to his team they were seeing for the first time.
“Being there, honestly, I didn’t hear a lot of boos. I saw a bit of it in videos afterwards, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said. We wanted to show our unity and that we would come together to lead the fight. We hope that our fans will support us as they do in games. ”
The clash between the Chiefs and Texans was the first of the 2020 season in the NFL. The defending NFL champions won by the 34-20 count.
