JJ Redick is preparing the preseason of Los Angeles Lakers in what will be his first challenge as a coach. He retired, became a podcast star and from there went straight to the hottest bench in the entire league with players like LeBron James y Anthony Davis and brutal media pressure.
He landed calmly and spoke calmly about his preseason on Spectrum’s Lakeshow Podcast:
“I mean, look, those guys are professionals in every sense of the word. My concern for them about whether or not they’ll be ready to play on October 22 and be in shape, I don’t have that concern. We’re going to work with Mike and Ish to make sure they’re in a great spot to start the regular season. They’ll certainly be involved in training camp and preseason here in September as well as preseason games.”
He is more than enthusiastic about the team he has formed, with which he hopes to achieve many successes next season:
“What I’m most excited about is working, being in the gym with the guys and the coaching staff. That’s been the best part… It’s been fascinating because you’re putting puzzle pieces together about skills and personalities. I couldn’t be happier with the team we’ve put together here, we’ve got a mix of youth and experience. Obviously Nate (McMillan) and Scotty (Brooks), but also Bob Beyer, who’s been in charge of the bench for almost two decades in the NBA. The biggest thing for me was to make sure I had a bunch of guys on my roster and I think I’ve done that. They’re grinders.”
