Alesandro Barico (1958) is an Italian writer whose works have been translated and published all over the world. There are several novels available in Latvian that have caught the attention of readers. “The New Bride” was published in Latvian very recently – in 2019, translated by Dace Meiere.
The central event in the story is the arrival of the bride to fulfill a long-held promise to marry her son. However, the fact that the son is not present makes it difficult to keep the promise. The family, whose young bride arrived at the manor, measuring a long way from Argentina, is also unaware of when her son will return. And all you have to do is wait to spend time in this unique house, which has its own rules and regulations.
“The topics addressed by the heroes are as philosophical as they are understood by every viewer. The secrets of the past choices that dictate our actions today, the persecution of our freedom, the legacies that give away not only things but also fears to future generations, ”says Zanda Borga, the theater’s literary adviser.
The role of the new bride in the show has been entrusted to the new actress Madara Kalna, in other roles – Inese Kučinska, Edgars Pujāts, Ilze Trukšāne or Signe Dancīte, Kaspars Gods, Leons Leščinskis, Egons Dombrovskis, Edgars Ozoliņš and Karīna Tatarinova.
The director has been helped to create the production by a wide creative team, including composer Andris Vilcāns, who has created the original music for the show, one of the most important of which is the theme of tango. The visual image of the show was created by set designer Mārtiņš Vilkārsis, costume designer Marina Medvedeva, video artist Artis Dzērve and lighting artist Mārtiņš Feldmanis. Linda Kalniņa, the assistant director, has also choreographed the show.
This year, the production can also be watched on December 5.
The theater reminds that it is possible to visit it in person only for those spectators who have been vaccinated against Covid-19, as well as for those spectators who have become ill with Covid-19.
Upon arrival at the theater, spectators will be required to present an entrance ticket with a valid passport or ID card and a Covid-19 certificate. The entrance ticket will be valid only together with the said certificate and identity document. Both in the theater and throughout the show, the audience must use the mask properly, covering both the nose and the mouth.
