The municipality of Jiyeh expressed its condemnation of “the attack that St. George’s Church was subjected to in the town,” stressing that “what happened was a reprehensible act by all the spiritual families of Jiyeh, who are very keen on preserving unity, coexistence, and diversity.”
In a statement, it stressed “the importance and necessity of the cooperation of all parties, and to work together to strengthen civil peace, and to reject all kinds of sectarian and sectarian strife.”
The municipality indicated that “its head by designation, Wissam Al-Hajj, inspected the church at night, knowing the details of the incident, and made a series of phone calls with the security forces, the head of the Monastery of St. actors, who seek to destabilize the town.”
Yesterday night, unknown persons entered St. George’s Church in Jiyeh, and destroyed some small statues. It was reported that the purpose of entering the church was to steal the votive box. The security forces came to the place and started investigations.
