On Thursday, July 28, Chinese President Xi Jinping held a telephone conversation with US President Joe Biden.
According to the Chinese state government news agency Xinhuadiscussed Sino-US relations and issues of mutual interest.
In particular, it was about Taiwan. Xi Jinping stressed China’s principled position on the Taiwan issue, saying that the PRC opposes Taiwan’s independence and any form of outside interference in the situation.

The Chinese President told Biden that more than 1.4 billion Chinese are determined to resolutely defend China’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He declared that “public opinion must not be violated” and threatened the American president, saying that “playing with fire, you will set yourself on fire.”
According to a statement from the Chinese side, “the two heads of state considered the call frank and thorough, agreed to keep in touch and instructed the working groups of the two sides to continue communication and cooperation for these purposes.”
As previously reported, Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi said she intends to visit Taiwan after August 1. Pelosi would become the highest-ranking US politician to visit the country in 25 years, if the visit goes ahead.
