Jinping and Biden will meet to address strategic issues and strengthen Asia-Pacific Cooperation – The Discussion

China’s Foreign Ministry confirmed today that President Xi Jinping will travel to the United States for a crucial meeting with his American counterpart, Joe Biden. In addition, he will participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, underscoring the strategic importance that China attaches to the region.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the leaders “will discuss in-depth issues of strategic importance in shaping the relationship between China and the United States, as well as issues relevant to world peace and development.”

This meeting, which will take place a year after their last meeting in Bali (Indonesia), marks an important step in the recent thaw in bilateral relations.

The Ministry highlighted that Xi’s participation in APEC demonstrates the “great importance” that China attaches to cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. In the face of growing global economic instability, the region is expected to continue being a leading economic driver of global growth.

During his participation, President Xi will deliver a meaningful speech to further explain China’s proposals to strengthen cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region and foster regional and global growth.

In a statement, the Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed the hope that all parties involved in the meeting will focus on the urgent needs of the region, deepen solidarity and cooperation, and work together to achieve positive results.

This meeting between Xi Jinping and Joe Biden occurs after a year in which bilateral relations experienced tensions, marked by the trade war, US sanctions on Chinese companies and the Taiwan question.
