Jimmy Kimmel Defies Instructions and Reads Donald Trump’s Truth Social at Oscars
Even as the Oscar ceremony was running a little short, Jimmy Kimmel said that he was told not to read Donald Trump’s Truth Social post on the air. He did anyway.
Going Against the Rules
“They are like, ‘you got a little bit of time.’ I’m like, ‘I’m reading the Trump tweet.’ They say, ‘No, no, don’t read that.’ I’m like, ‘Yes I am’,” Kimmel recounted to Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos on Live with Kelly & Mark.
Donald Trump’s Critique on the Oscarcast and Kimmel’s Response
During the Oscar show, Trump had posted on his social media site Truth Social a critique of the Oscarcast and Kimmel’s performance. So, Kimmel went on stage and read it, generating one of the more memorable punchlines of a recent Oscar ceremony.
Donald Trump’s Tweet
From his phone, Kimmel read, “Has there ever been a worse host than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars? His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be. Get rid of Kimmel and perhaps replace him with another washed-up, but cheap, ABC talent, George Slopanopoulos. He would make everybody on the stage look bigger, stronger, and more glamorous. Blah. Blah. Blah. Make America Great Again.”
Kimmel’s Epic Reply
Kimmel then gave his reaction to the bad review, “Thank you President Trump. Thank you for watching. I’m surprised you’re still… isn’t it past your jail time?” The audience cheered.
