Washington: Former US President Jimmy Carter will be given further treatment at home. Carter, 98, has health problems, including melanoma that has spread to his liver and brain. The disease was diagnosed eight years ago. The Carter Center said he wants to spend the rest of his time at home with his family rather than seek further treatment at the hospital.
Jimmy Carter is the oldest living US president. He is also the longest serving former president in the history of the United States.
Jimmy Carter served as US President from 1977 to 1981. After leaving the presidency, he founded the Carter Center with his wife, Rosalyn Carter. It was to help the poor. Jimmy Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. Still active at age 90, Carter worked with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for low-income families until 2020. Carter built more than four thousand houses.
