Romanian coaches have a clear advantage over their Spanish counterparts in terms of the President’s Cup throughout its history.
Records say that Romanian coaches have won the title on 3 occasions before.
It started with Eli Bellacci, who won the title with Al-Ain (the leader) in 1999, then returned to his favorite hobby. He won the title in 2004 with Al-Ahly Youth (Red Knights), while the leader won the 2001 title with fellow Romanian Angel Jordanescu.
As for the Spanish coaches, they left an orphan mark on the “most precious trophies” when Kiki Flores crowned the title with the Red Knights in 2013.
The attention of those interested in statistics will look forward to the upcoming final of 2022 between Sharjah (the king) and Al Wahda (the honorable people), which in turn will bring together a Romanian and a Spanish coach.
In the event that the king is crowned with the title, Olario Cosmin, his coach, will become the third Romanian to taste “the sweetness of the most precious cups”, and for the fourth time in the balance of his people.
As for the exit of their Excellencies with the cup from the “Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium”, it means that Manuel Jimenez, its technical director, bridges the gap between its citizens and their Roman counterparts.
