Jim Ryan says players only remember good games

According to Jim Ryan, part of Sony’s reason to invest heavily in the quality of its titles is that players only remember the best games.

In an interview with the Chinese publication TMT Post (via Push Square), the president of Sony Interactive Entertainment talks about how the company fights for top-tier titles, even if it means they take a little longer to make. He says it’s “better to wait and make a great game than to run and have a game that’s good or very good.”

Ryan continues: “Players only remember the best games, not good games. If it’s a better game, players might want a straight and also buy a straight, but nobody really cares about a game that’s just good.” He concludes that Sony will not settle for less: “we want the best.”

he quotes Ratchet & Clank: In Another Dimension as an example, a game he’s been playing himself recently. Ryan’s definition of a best game is one that “can arouse certain emotions in players, such as making the player feel excited, feeling the adrenaline, feeling happy or sad.”
