Jim Ratcliffe’s 1.25 Billion Pound Purchase of Manchester United and 236 Million Pound Stadium Investment

The purchase price shall, according to BBC, amount to 1.25 billion pounds, approximately 16 billion kroner. Ratcliffe, 71, is also investing £236 million in United’s home stadium, Old Trafford.

The announcement comes over a year after the American Glazer family of owners said they were considering selling all or part of the club. The Glazer family bought Manchester United in 2005 and have long been hated by supporters who felt they mismanaged the club.

United have not won the Premier League since 2013 and have failed to impress the market in recent seasons under heavily criticized coach Erik ten Hag. The club came last in the group stage of the Champions League and have not scored in the last four games.

Jim Ratcliffe was born in Manchester and has built his fortune in the chemical sector. In a statement, he says that the investment in United is long-term: “Our common ambition is clear: We all want to see Manchester United back where the club belongs, at the absolute top of English, European and world football”.
