12 p.m. – Seven military hospitals will deploy vaccination centers
As part of Operation Resilience, launched in spring 2020 by Emmanuel Macron, seven military hospitals will deploy vaccination centers as of Tuesday, April 6. These are the Bégin hospitals in Saint-Mandé (Val-de-Marne) and Percy in Clamart (Hauts-de-Seine), in Ile-de-France; Laveran hospitals in Marseille and Sainte-Anne hospitals in Toulon, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region; from Clermont-Tonnerre hospital in Brest, Brittany; from the Legouest hospital in Metz, in the Grand Est region and finally from the Robert Picqué hospital in Bordeaux, in New Aquitaine.
11:30 a.m. – European birth rate drop
INSEE had observed a 13% drop in the birth rate in France in December 2020 and January 2021, 9 months after the first confinement. According to data from German and Austrian demographic institutes, which look at the birth rate in 34 countries, most European states are seeing the same phenomenon, such as Spain (-20%), Russia (-10%) or even Sweden (-6%).
We also observe, according to these statistics put forward by Le Monde, a correlation between the intensity of the epidemic wave and the birth rate. For example, Iceland, which has only 29 deaths, saw the number of newborns increase by 100 units in 2020 compared to 2019.
11 am – Easter celebration: the big hospital bosses call on the French to “be responsible” and “be careful”
In a column published by the Journal du Dimanche, several doctors and researchers, including Karine Lacombe and Bruno Mégarbane call on the French to be cautious and responsible during this Easter weekend.
10 a.m. – Vaccination: San Marino in orbit
The Republic of San Marino is included in Italy, but is not part of the European Union. Also, the microstate has decided to turn to Russia for vaccination, by requesting doses of the Sputnik V vaccine. Since the beginning of March, 10,000 San Marino citizens have benefited from an injection of this health product, i.e. a third of the population. A sort of open-air clinical study for Western Europe …
9 am – Chile, Serbia, Morocco… those countries that vaccinate more than France
If France is the 14th country to have administered the most doses of anti-Covid vaccine per 100 hp inhabitant (17.81), it is overtaken by countries that were not necessarily expected there at the top of the “ranking”. Thus Chile (56.42 / 100 h), Serbia (37.06 / 100 h), Hungary (32.37 / 100 h) or even Morocco (22.33 / 100 h).
8 a.m. – Data gaps in France
Today, Santé Publique France is unable to give the number of new contaminations recorded in France.
It also counts:
– 28,886 people hospitalized for Covid-19 (balance of + 1,627 over the last 7 days compared to + 1,722 the previous 7 days, 1,730 admitted over the last 24 hours)
– 5,273 people in intensive care (balance of + 482 over the last 7 days vs. + 438 over the previous 7 days, 399 admissions in 24 hours);
– 96,493 people who have died since March 1 (including 2,001 over the last 7 days vs. 2,325 over the previous 7 days).
7 a.m. – Sad record in Brazil
According to data collected by Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, there have been 130,806,979 cases of Covid-19 worldwide (vs. 126,784,465 on March 28) and 2,847,093 deaths related to this disease (vs. 2,778,539 March 28) since the start of the pandemic. The three countries that have identified and reported the most cases are the United States (30,671,842 vs. 30,218,688 Covid + on March 28), Brazil (12,953,597 vs. 12,490,362 + on March 28) and India (12,485,509 vs 11,599,130 Covid + on March 21). The three most bereaved countries in absolute terms are the United States (554,779 deaths vs. 548,828 on March 28), Brazil (330,193 deaths vs. 310,550 on March 28) and Mexico (204,011 deaths vs. 201,429 on March 28).
We note, in particular, that Brazil recorded 20,000 deaths in one week and 66,000 during the month of March, twice as many as in July 2020, the previous record.
