Since the White House announced, Monday, that US First Lady Jill Biden has contracted the Corona virus, news and posts have spread on social media claiming that she contracted the virus as a result of receiving the vaccine and booster doses.
The first lady’s office had reported that Jill Biden, 72, had “only mild symptoms” and would stay at her home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
The White House said President Biden (80 years old) also underwent a Covid test Monday evening and the result was negative, adding that he will continue to take regular tests and monitor for symptoms.
In recent weeks, the United States has witnessed a rise in coronavirus infections and hospitalizations for treatment, after the spread of a new variant of the virus.
On the fourth of this month, US media and social media posts reported that the first lady not only tested positive for Covid-19 for the second time, but also “received a double vaccination and two booster doses earlier.”
This claim is true, but linking the infection to her receiving the vaccine and booster doses is not realistic.
When it comes to preventing new infections, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization confirm that vaccines or booster doses do not prevent infection, but they certainly reduce the need for hospitalization as well as reduce mortality rates.
Jill Biden first contracted the virus in August last year and suffered mild symptoms before recovering.
And the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicated last week that the mutant (PA. 2.86) may be more likely to infect people who have previously been infected with the Corona virus or who have received preventive vaccinations.
Scientists stressed that although it is necessary to monitor (PA2.86), it is unlikely to cause a severe wave of serious illness and death, given the high immunity of people around the world due to vaccinations and previous infections.
