Jil Teichmann enters for the first time in the top 50 of the best players in the world. The Biennese had reached the semi-finals of the WTA-1000 tournament in Dubai last week.
Teichmann thus went from 54th to 41st place thanks to his prowess in the Emirates.
For Belinda Bencic, ranked No. 12 in the WTA, the early elimination in Dubai remains inconsequential. Switzerland had not counted two players in the top 50 for five years with Bencic and Timea Bacsinszky.
Among men, the reign of the ‘Big Four’ in the first two places of the world ranking has lived. Daniil Medvedev, finalist of the Australian Open and winner in Marseille last week, ousted Rafael Nadal from his second place behind Novak Djokovic.
The 25-year-old Russian is the first No.2 since Lleyton Hewitt 16 years ago, who isn’t called Djokovic, Nadal, Roger Federer or Andy Murray. For his part, Federer remains in 6th place after his return to Doha.
