Jihan El-Desouki, the granddaughter of Umm Kulthum, Kawkab Al-Sharq, announced that she will take legal measures that will preserve her grandmother’s artistic heritage.
Jihan Al-Desouki authorized Counselor Yasser Kantoush to take all legal measures towards Sawt Al-Fan Company by amending the contract in proportion to the material value of that heritage, the material value of which currently amounts to millions of dollars.
Umm Kulthum’s granddaughter added in a statement today: The current waiver contract for the exploitation of artistic and literary rights over the heritage of the planet East has become unfair and not commensurate with the material value of that huge artistic heritage.
She continued: “This waiver is considered invalid according to the provisions of the Intellectual Property Law, which regulates artistic and literary rights to artistic performances.”
Jihan concluded her statement by saying that Counselor Yasser Kantounsh will take all legal and judicial measures against the aforementioned company, in order to preserve the rights to Umm Kulthum’s heritage.
