With a second straight defeat and a new quarterback on the sidelines, the Dolphins are back from their little cloud of the start of the season.
New York Jets (3-2) – Miami Dolphins (3-2): 40-17
For the first time since 2017, the Jets have a positive record after five games.
Unlike the Dolphins who played almost the entire game with their third quarterback, New York chained the second consecutive and third success of the season thanks in particular to five touchdowns scored on the ground. On the Miami side, the beautiful sun of the first weeks gave way to a huge cloud …
Miami in salsa
Deprived of their starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins they count on Teddy Bridgewater to carry out the attack on New York. But on Miami’s first offensive action, the latter was thwarted in his own end zone by rookie cornerback Sauce Gardner. Bridgewater manages to get rid of the ball in time but the referees announce an intentional grounding. Safety, 2-0 Jets.
To make matters worse on the Miami side, Teddy Bridgewater – injured in his elbow and had to undergo concussion protocol – must give way to rookie Skylar Thompson (19/33 passes, 166 YDS, 1 INT, 1 fumble lost), while Offensive tackle Terron Armstead also joined the infirmary shortly thereafter. Meanwhile, the Jets take off. Taking advantage of several defensive penalties to score a basket first, New York then found the promised land twice. Runner Michael Carter (2 down TDs) scored a first touchdown after a 79-yard reception from rookie Breece Hall (18 carries, 97 YDS, 1 TD, 2 REC, 100 YDS), then young quarterback Zach Wilson (14 / 21, 210 YDS, 1 TD on the ground) uses his legs to score the second after the first interception in Sauce Gardner’s career.

Opportunistic jets
The New York youth gives the Jets overall control in the first half, but the Dolphins hold out to avoid sinking. Stellar receiver Tyreek Hill (7 REC, 47 YDS) and running back Raheem Mostert (18 carry, 113 YDS, 1 TD) are Skylar Thompson’s main supporters in the first two quarters. The first is true to itself, the second is particularly in the legs. And under the impetus of these two, Miami made two big 75-yard drives that ended with a touchdown each time, including one just before half-time. Twelve points behind, the Floridians return to 19-14 at the interval.
Owning the ball back from the locker room, the Dolphins ride the wave and narrow the field goal gap a little more, but miss the opportunity to pass forward on a new 54-yard attempt. Opportunity that unfortunately for Miami will not repeat itself later.
After this missed field goal, the Jets use a good ground position to put pressure on the Dolphins defense. Two great receptions by Corey Davis and Breece Hall open the way for a new touchdown on the ground (26-14), before a fumble by Skylar Thompson on sack definitively condemns Miami. Hall finds the end zone just behind to give New York a 33-17 lead, and the Jets will also increase the gap a bit on a good run by Braxton Berrios (40-17).
