Jetblue challenges Air France by opening low-cost long-haul flights between Paris and New York

Big announcement in the air. Jetblue, the American low-cost airline, will open the Paris-New York line next summer. After London-New York this year, the second American low-cost airline thus embarks on a very competitive axis, occupied by Air France, Delta, Frenchbee, American, Delta, United…, with 5 weekly flights between the Roissy Charles de Gaulle and New JFK.

Low-cost long-haul, tidal wave or flash in the pan?

A project planned a few years ago but postponed with the health crisis. The company plans to quickly switch to a daily flight and open a second line, between Paris and Boston. This announcement is obviously not good news for incumbents. JetBlue brings together all the assets that allow on paper to succeed where others have failed. Above all, it is a large company, it is recording solid results and will be able to supply its long-haul flights with connecting passengers thanks to the importance of its network of destinations in New York and Boston. At “JFK”, JetBlue is in fact one of the major operators with Delta. Furthermore, you will have no difficulty in making yourself known due to your notoriety and reputation for the quality of your services.

Cheaper and easier to fill planes

The type of aircraft provided for its transatlantic flights is also an advantage. JetBlue will operate these flights with the A321LR, the long-haul version of this medium-haul aircraft. Less expensive than jumbo jets, these planes are also easier to fill due to a smaller capacity (220 passengers). This type of device can help increase the frequency of flights and reach professional travellers. Lastly, the use of an aircraft already present in the corporate fleet therefore makes it possible to reduce pilot qualification costs and maintenance costs.
