ShowbizzJet de Nijs commemorates the 81st birthday of her great love Rob de Nijs on Instagram. The Dutch singer’s wife shared a photo of a candle on Tuesday. The caption already says the following: “81 candles on your cake. Every year I love you more… #letloverule #robdenijs.”
It has been a while since we heard from the couple. In mid-October, Jet de Nijs received a special television award in the name of her husband. The Dutch singer was awarded the Televizier-Ring Impact at the 58th edition of the prestigious Golden Televizier-Ring Gala for the broadcast of his farewell concert in the Ziggo Dome. According to viewers, the broadcast in question was the most impactful TV moment of the year.
Difficult period
On the blue carpet, Jet, who had lost her 93-year-old mother shortly before the ceremony, told us more about how they were doing in the meantime. Jet admitted that the festive evening felt particularly mixed. “But I do this for Rob,” he said. The wife of the Dutch singer also honestly admitted that they had already gone through quite a difficult period. “It’s just wrestling. Not happy with each other, but it is a process. Everyone does that in his or her own way. And that’s a good thing, we do it together.”
The singer, known for hits such as ‘Malle Babbe’ and ‘Banger Hart’, spent months in a rehabilitation center this year. De Nijs was admitted at the end of April after respiratory problems and pulmonary embolism almost killed him. His wife had to give him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation when she no longer noticed a heartbeat. “It slipped from between my fingers,” she said at the time. “Rob was no longer breathing. That was horror.”

Rob de Nijs gave his farewell concert in June 2022. The singer suffers from Parkinson’s, which is why it was increasingly difficult for him to perform. In November 2021, the Nijs also performed again in the Antwerp Sports Palace. “Everyone can cry, except me,” the Dutch singer said at the time.
