JetBlue will hire about 5,000 employees in New York City this year as part of a “workforce partnership” with the mayor, the company said Monday.
The airline, which currently operates some 200 daily flights from the city, will expand its offer to 300 daily flights for the summer.
JetBlue already employs more than 8,000 people in the five boroughs, said Joanna Geraghty, the airline’s president and chief operating officer.
“I am pleased to share that we are redoubling our commitment to New York City and our community by announcing our workforce partnership with Mayor [Eric] Adams to support his New York City economic recovery project,” Geraghty said.
“This means that we are dedicated to investing in our New York City community for many years to come so that we can create a strong foundation for future JetBlue crew members and a more resilient workforce for the city of New York.” New York as a whole,” he added.
Mayor Adams’ Office posted a message on social media stating:
“You can’t put down New York City or @JetBlue! They are hiring for 5000 new jobs and more than ready to welcome tourists to New York. This city is OPEN.
Book your flight today!”

In August, JetBlue announced that it would maintain its headquarters in New York and expand its presence at JFK airport with the construction of a new hub adjacent to Terminal 5, known as Terminal 6. The airline currently operates flights from the JFK and LaGuardia airports.
The news comes months after a spokesperson for the airline said it was considering moving its headquarters from Long Island City to Florida.
Adams said Monday that the airline’s new hires would play “a very important role in the recovery of New York City.”
“Our economy has been grounded. COVID has devastated us. COVID has left us in the belief that there is no real recovery,” he said. “But you know, and I know, those who have traveled abroad or who have traveled to see loved ones or friends know that the first impression is the best.”
“This is not just a time to get a job: This is a time to get our economy flying again, so we can turn our city around and show the country how resilient we are,” he added. “So we need them. We need them.”
