Jessica Pegula has convincingly reached the final battle of the WTA Finals in Cancun. The 29-year-old American was merciless for her ten-year-younger compatriot and doubles partner Coco Gauff: 6-1, 6-2.
Pegula is in shining form this week. She did not lose a set in her four matches on the way to the final – which Serena Williams was the last to achieve in 2012 – and allowed her opponents only 22 games. Despite the strong wind, she made few mistakes against US Open winner Gauff, who suffered from this and struggled with her serve.
The weather once again showed itself in a different way. Rain seriously affected the match between Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek, the numbers one and two on the placement list. Their match had to be stopped after just three games. The Belarusian and Polish players will play their interrupted match on Sunday.
