Jesper Wallstedt excited for potential NHL debut with injury-ridden Minnesota Wild

Jesper Wallstedt is happy to be back with the NHL team Minnesota Wild after spending the last few weeks with the Iowa Wild in the AHL.

– I think you can tell from my smile how I feel about being here, Wallstedt said on Monday.

But despite the fact that fellow countryman Filip Gustavsson, the Wild’s starting goaltender on weekdays, is on the injury list and will likely do so for a while, Wallstedt, 21, does not take it for granted that he will make his NHL debut.

– You never know with things like that, right now I’m taking everything day by day and we’ll see how it goes. If the opportunity presents itself, I will give it everything I have. If it doesn’t happen this time, I have to keep working to get better.

An injury-stricken Wild gets reinforcements in the near future when team captain Marcus Foligno makes a comeback during the night of Tuesday, Swedish time, in the meeting with the Dallas Stars (02.00, Viaplay). In addition to Foligno, the aforementioned Gustavsson, as well as Kirill Kaprizov, Vinni Lettieri, Jonas Brodin and Jared Spurgeon are on the injury list.

– We have had tough games here without having access to a full crew, said Foligno. It’s impressive how we stood up, how (head coach John) Hynes structured us, despite having key players on the injury list.

However, Brodin, Kaprizov and Gustavsson are all on their way back, Hynes announced, and have started ice training. Brodin has missed 13 games, Kaprizov four and Gustavsson four.

– They are recovering according to plan, Hynes said. I don’t have an exact timeline to offer, but they’ve all gone on ice. They are skating and it is an important milestone in recovery.
