Jesper Karlsson has been a key player for AZ Alkmaar’s offensive games both this and last season. Before Sunday’s match against Sparta Rotterdam, the 23-year-old had been noted for six goals and six assists in 20 appearances, but he would increase that.

It started hard when the guests took the lead with 1-0 in the 19th minute through Adil Auassar. But Rotterdam would not even be allowed to keep that lead for ten minutes, when Karlsson stepped up to the penalty spot in the 27th minute and set the 1-1 equalizer. Four minutes later, the Swede had then had time to become a two-goal shooter, when he with another goal completed AZ’s turn to 2-1.

In the second half, he then played Evangelos Pavlidis to 3-1 with the hour played, before he himself had a third ball in the net in the 66th minute. Unfortunately for Karlsson, the goal was ruled out for offside.

Pavlidi’s goal was the last of the match and AZ won 3-1. The team thus climbs up to eighth place in the Eredivisie table. Karlsson, in turn, has now scored eight goals and seven assists in 21 appearances.
