He was the founder and director of the State Agency for Solving Alcohol Problems for many years, but we will all remember him primarily as a teacher , a mentor and a man who inspired thousands of people to work in the field of prevention, addiction therapy and broadly understood alcohol problem solving. He inspired all of us. We are united in mourning and sorrow with family and loved ones “- PARPA announced on Friday on its Facebook page.

“I have just received the sad news that Prof. Jerzy Mellibruda, the founder and long-time director of the State Agency for Solving Alcohol Problems, has passed away. Condolences to the Professor’s relatives” – wrote the Minister of Health on Twitter Adam Niedzielski.

Jerzy Mellibruda graduated from psychology at Jagiellonian University in 1969, after which he was – under the supervision of prof. Antoni Kępiński – clinical internship. He defended his doctoral thesis in 1972. He was a psychologist specializing in addiction issues, in particular alcohol problems. He was a popularizer of the idea of ​​Adult Children of Alcoholics in Poland.

He was the head of the Institute of Health Psychology of the Polish Psychological Association, head of the Department of Psychology of Addictions, Violence and Crisis Situations at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Warsaw. He was a psychotherapy supervisor of the Polish Psychological Association, a certified Training Supervisor of the Polish Psychological Society.

In 1998 he was awarded the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
