Shots in New Jersey near the metropolis of New York!
▶ ︎ According to US media reports, two men holed themselves up in a kosher supermarket for hours and fired at passers-by and approaching police officers from around 12.30 p.m. (local time).
According to official information from Mayor Steven Fulop, a total of six people were killed – including the two attackers. Previously it was said that the shooters were a man and a woman.
Police officer Joseph Seals (40), father of five children, was shot in the head and three other people – probably customers of the stormed supermarket – were also killed. Two other police officers were injured in the firefight, but have already been able to leave the hospital.
Starting point for the exchange of fire – apparently a murder investigation, like „NBC News“ reported. The police officer who was later killed approached two suspects in a cemetery, according to the authorities, who immediately opened fire. Police Chief Michael Kelly said Joseph Seals specialized in seizing illegal weapons.

After the fatal shot at the police officer, the shooters fled a little more than a kilometer to the supermarket in a rented van.
Mayor Fulop tweeted that the attackers had specifically chosen the store – he did not provide any further information. But: An act of terrorism is still ruled out by the authorities.

Police officers and special forces fought for hours, in which the shooters were finally shot.
Except for the mayor’s tweet, nothing was said about the reason the men opened fire on civilians and police.
Children had to endure four hours in school
Residents and school children were not allowed to leave the building between 12.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. (local time) – one of the schools is right across from the supermarket that was being shot at. Then the ban on going out was lifted.
According to the White House, US President Donald Trump (73) was also informed about the situation in Jersey City.
Trump wrote on Twitter: “We just heard about the terrible shooting in Jersey City. Our thoughts and prayers go to the victims and their families. We will keep an eye on the situation and support the emergency services. “
