Jersey City and Hoboken residents must boil water until further notice – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW JERSEY – The New Jersey Department of the Environment issued a boil water advisory for the cities of Jersey City and Hoboken on Thursday due to the impact of Storm Ida.

The notice was still in effect on Saturday and the mayors of both cities reminded residents that there are several places where they are distributing water while the water is being tested in a laboratory and sent to the state Department of the Environment.

“The boil water advisory remains in effect for Jersey City and Hoboken. The samples were sent to a certified laboratory and the results were sent to the New Jersey Department of the Environment. SUEZ continues to work to resolve the issue and water is available. Thank you for your patience, ”wrote Suez, the company that provides water service in different counties in New Jersey, such as Hudson County that encompasses these cities.

According to the company, the boil water notice could end at the end of Saturday if the water meets all standards for safe drinking water.

In the meantime, even if the water is filtered at home, all Jersey City and Hoboken residents should boil the water for one minute and allow it to cool for the following uses: drinking, cooking, baking, washing dishes by hand, ( Dishwashers can be used without boiling water if they have high temperatures or sanitary environments), make ice cubes, take medicine, brush teeth, wash food, mix baby formula, mix juices or drinks, feed pets or other consumer, says the company. You don’t need to boil water to shower or wash clothes, they noted.

The company warns that harmful microbes in drinking water can cause illness and could pose a special health risk to infants, some elderly and people with severely compromised immune systems.

Keep in mind that cloudiness has no health effects. However, turbidity can interfere with disinfection and provide a medium for microbe growth, which is why NJDEP issued the Boil Water Advisory. The company will work with the entity to inform residents when the notice to boil water is lifted, “they said.

SUEZ staff are distributing drinking water in different places, people have to bring their containers.
