Jerry Nadler and Carolyn Maloney Will Battle in Manhattan Primary – NBC4 New York

Manhattan Reps Jerry Nadler and Carolyn Maloney, both in Congress for a generation, will face off in a Democratic primary this summer after redrawn maps put them both in the same district.

Nadler has been in Congress since 1992 and currently represents District 10; Maloney has served since 1993 and is the incumbent in District 12.

The state’s congressional primary is expected on August 23. They were postponed after a judge threw out maps drawn by a redistricting commission and assigned the task to a special teacher.

A draft of that teacher’s special maps came out Monday morning, and it showed that Nadler and Maloney could play each other. The new 12th Ward essentially spans the middle third of Manhattan.

Nadler is the chair of the House Judiciary Committee and Maloney the chair of the House Oversight Committee, making them two of the most powerful members of Congress.
