Jerney Kaagman has received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her oeuvre. The 76-year-old singer received the award on Thursday.
The prize was presented by guitarist Jan Akkerman. Last year, the award was presented for the first time to the duo Bolland & Bolland.
Kaagman, who has suffered from Parkinson’s disease for years, was happy with the prize. “Great to experience this now and I’m very happy with this tribute,” said the former Earth & Fire singer.
Earth & Fire scored hits like Memories in Weekend. The group broke up in 1983. The singer then released several solo albums. Kaagman later chaired Stichting Conamus, a foundation dedicated to supporting Dutch music. The singer was also one of the judges at the talent show Idols.
“This Lifetime Achievement Award should become a household name in the coming years,” said Martin Reitsma, the creator of the prize. “It is high time for a tribute to the old pop heroes. After all, apart from the Popprijs and the Edison, there is no prize for well-known musicians and bands that have a great track record and have not released any new music in recent years.”
