Jermain Rigueur Arrested for Series of Stabbings in Queens and Brooklyn

Jermain Rigueur, a young hospital employee, was arrested on suspicion of having injured a series of people by randomly stabbing them on the streets of Queens and a subway car in Brooklyn.according to the NYPD.

Rigueur, 27, has been charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He was arrested yesterday afternoon in Springfield Gardens, a few blocks from where the last three stabbings had occurred hours before. Police said the suspect works as a receptionist at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklynhe detailed Pix11.

When detectives searched the suspect’s home, they found the hunting knife that he allegedly used during the spate of attacks this month, he said ABC News. He is expected to appear in court today.

Police believe the young man is related to several stabbings inside the Subway or near stations and on an MTA bus. It could also be related to another similar attack in Brooklyn. All victims were taken to the hospital and survived.

“Our investigators believe that each of these attacks were committed by the same person,” NYPD Commissioner Edward Cabán said yesterday. Facial recognition program helped NYPD locate Rigueur.

Apparently your first attack happened on January 8when a 61-year-old man stabbed in the back at the intersection of 157th Street and 137th Av, in Queens. Authorities believe the same suspect is also responsible for having stabbed a 34-year-old woman who got off an MTA bus and was walking home early on January 16 near 158th Street and 134th Avenue, also in that county.

Yesterday morning there were three new attacks in a few hours. The first occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. at 134th Avenue and 161st Street. A 74-year-old man was stabbed in the lower abdomen and a 41-year-old man was stabbed in the back. Both were taken to Jamaica Hospital.

Two hours later a 28-year-old man was injured in the abdomen when I was traveling on a subway train of the J line in Brooklyn. The suspect got off the Subway at the Flushing Avenue station.

All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
