Jerez is, for the second consecutive year, among the large Spanish cities with the highest degree of citizen satisfaction with respect to the provision of its municipal public services, according to the new national barometer of OSUR (Observatory of Urban Services). Although what underlines and gives more importance to its presence in the ranking is the comparison with previous years. In 2018, the level of satisfaction rose to 28%. In 2023, according to the data made public this week, it rises to 87%, almost sixty points of difference and improving the reference of last year, when 83% satisfaction was reached.
This evolution can also be seen in improving the provision of different municipal services, as in the case of park and garden maintenance and street cleaning, which in 2017 had the worst valuation rates in the city with 28 and 26%, respectively. Currently, the level of satisfaction amounts to 76% in the case of parks and 68% in that of street cleaning.
In the same way, it is necessary to highlight the positive evolution and evaluation of the water supply services, which has gone from failing (49% in 2017) to a notable high, with 84% obtained in the last barometer. A degree of satisfaction that is three points above the national average, and that improves by six points from 2022. The aspect that most satisfies those surveyed is operational management (pressure, service continuity, meter operation, etc.) , followed by the quality of the water supplied to them, with 85% favorable opinions.
In the case of the garbage and waste collection service, it has gone from continuous suspense between 2017 and 2019 -around 43%- to 76% achieved this yeareight points above the national average, although it falls back three points compared to 2022. In this case, the most valued is the frequency of service with 72% and the endowment and equipment with 70%.
Regarding street cleaningalso regresses by three points, although places its valuation at 68%, 52 points above that obtained in 2019. An improvement attributed to the improvements made by the concessionaire UTE Jerez, which has incorporated more operational and versatile machinery, as well as more innovative and reliable, which they trust will help to continue advancing in a more positive perception of the service.
The surprise of this year’s balance comes from the hand of public transport servicewhich according to the authors of the barometer, has been “clearly favored by the general policies of cheapening and freeing it – it has gone from 75% of Jerez residents satisfied with the service to 89%, which represents 11% above the national average.
For Lorenzo Dávila, CEO of OSUR“bearing in mind that until before the pandemic Jerez appeared in the caboose of the report, it is not a bad fact, especially if we consider that the citizens have known how to value the improvement in all aspects”.
There is also another parameter that certifies the more than positive evaluation received by the provision of municipal services in Jerez, and it has to do with the national average. So, For the second consecutive year, the level of satisfaction once again exceeds this parameter, since the national average now stands at 74%, 13 points below that obtained by Jerez.
The results of this fifth edition of the Barómetro are the result of a survey carried out by ODC on 5,210 people in order to reflect the opinion of the citizens of the 30 most populous cities in Spain: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Zaragoza, Malaga, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Bilbao, Alicante, Córdoba, Valladolid, Vigo, Gijón, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Vitoria, A Coruña, Granada, Elche, Oviedo, Terrassa, Badalona, Cartagena, Jerez de la Frontera, Sabadell, Móstoles, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Pamplona and Alcalá de Henares.
Out of all of them, Jerez occupies the twelfth position -in 2022 it reached second place-, although the satisfaction result obtained in 2023 is higher than that of the previous year. The reason why obtaining a better result falls in the classification has an explanation, in the words of Francisco Caamaño, president of OSUR: before the arrival of the municipal elections, cities that had a worse evaluation than Jerez have oriented the last year “to improve the public services and their citizen perception. An effort that has had a positive and widespread result, to the point of having changed the trend of those people who, in the year 2022, opted for indifference”.
